What is Psychotherapy?

The terms ‘counselling’ and ‘psychotherapy’ are often used interchangeably, however there is a slight difference between the two. Psychotherapy will help you identify, understand and change long standing beliefs, attitudes, thoughts and behaviours that are impacting or influencing your current quality of life and relationships. Through psychotherapy you can go much deeper with support to uncover and repair the causes of the issues, resulting in a ore dramatic change in perspective regarding the self, others, one’s life experiences, and life in general. Psychotherapy can bring together an array of therapeutic techniques that well understood and integrated specifically for each client’s needs and personalities.Often counselling may be short term or brief to work on specific issues that are arising in the present realms of life, where as psychotherapy may involve more long term support or work.

I will integrate both of these methods by addressing the current issues and working practically on solutions and support, while also addressing the past, and underlying and unconscious behaviours, thoughts or beliefs. Every person will work different in the sessions and the sessions are guided by you and your needs, wants and desires.  Theories that I use and integrate are; Client Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Rogerian theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy, Art therapy, Motivational interviewing, and solution focused therapy.

We aim to empower you by freeing you from your grip of unhelpful unconscious triggers or impulses through increased self awareness.

Research shows that the connection between the counsellor/therapist and the client is one of the most important factors in successful outcomes.
